    1. The articles exigence is clearly stated throughout it and is described as not knowing what Guyville is (being surrounded by a musical patriarchy) and then clarifying that it is a real place "not a fictional construct stolen from a line in an obscure album called Stull." (pg.329, p. 1)

    2. The purpose is describing what Guyville is in relation to the author's personal opinion as said as an "apotheosis." The author tells how there is usually a Guyville in most of our lives, we just have to find it (pg. 331, p. 2)

    3.
-Description of exigence (what Guyville is)
    -Brief album history
-Personal attachment and relationship with the songs and "movement"
-Review of what was said throughout

    4. We believe that they work together well to get the point across. The author clearly states what the problem is, how it resonates with her, and the way she dealt with it. The way she also brought in many examples also helped with the organization and getting her point across.

    1. Trying to say that people think that indie rock from the 90's in primarily male, also the sounds are geared toward men. (329, 3rd paragraph)
    2. Use Liz Phair as an example that 90's indie rock was not all male. (329-330, last paragraph on 329-1st paragraph on 330)
    3. starts out with exigence then moves to the purpose, example then proof, ending with conclusion.
    4. The exigence and purpose all work well together. This is becuase the problem or exigence is stated at the beginning and that helps the reader get a good idea. It was good that the purpose follows the exigence it give the author's answer to the problem before actually going into thoughtful examples. That is helpful because it organizes the readers thoughts as they read the article in a logical way.

    1. The exigence of this article is about how you would create a fictional place of your own. She is not fully aware of what Guyville is because it is a piece of fiction. She supports this by stating "You won't find Guyville on Google Maps, but for all that it existis in a more solid form than say Diagon Ally and the Hotel California, two fictional places."
    2. The purpose of this article is that it is a guide through the "Guyville". It is trying to act as a sense of community for this place that doesn't really exist.
3.This article starts off with an introduction and a short background on where she is coming from, then goes into explaining how Guyville is it's own entity and how it is related to other universes, and then it further develops into a walkthrough guide to Guyville. It ends with a conclusion stating that other artwork has faded in her mind, but this has still stayed true to her.
    5. Yes. We believe that the exigence, purpose, and organization work together well. They work fluidly and serve a purpose that ultimately serves eachother.

    1. The exigence is why these music battles and feuds started and how sometimes people weren't sure if they were watching an act or the actual musical performance. Found on page 334, paragraph 2.
    2. The purpose is to figure out where these feuds sparked by writing about a few feuds from back in the day and what the situation was before the musical battle happened. It is to show how some silly things turned into real feuds.
    3. - no introduction - he uses throwback scenes to introduce the purpose and exigence.
    - he talks about the whole reason these fights came to be
    - he talks about two main fights (Ninjaman vs. Vybz and then Beenie vs. Bounty)
    - he ends with the conclusion about where the fight situation is today
    - it is basically organized into a chronological history
    4. They work together nicely because they draw you in to the article. The organization works well with the exigence because it provides examples to help the reader better understand the problem. The article is started with a story which draws in the reader and then introduces them to the problem that the article is attempting to answer.

  5. Alex & Frank:
    1. The article's exigence is, "How could these things happen on stage, in broad daylight, on national television, in the country that gave birth to Bob Marley, the Ghandi of reggae," (334).
    2. The article's purpose is to shine a light on the difference on an American's perspective of reggae versus how it actually is. Also, the evolution of the culture and how it all started as a show that was put on for entertaining crowds that escalated into legitimate violence.
    3. starts off introducing you to this feud b/w two dj's to show you a different side to what you probably previously thought. then he shows his thesis after showing proof of it before. Then when you read it they both connect. He finishes by getting into a chronological history.

    4. they all work together to help provide a general understanding of a side of this most people wouldn't probably know. Exigence works because he explicitly states it after showing an example, which is where the organization comes into play. Also by organizing it chronologically. He starts with the fight which proves his point to you. Even before you know what he's talking about you have proof. Then he draws you in with his exigence which forces the reader to think more deeply about it. He then goes on to provide more information on it.

    1. the problem in this article is that Jamaican music is violent/competitive. "lyrics generally work on the same Ill-have-sex-with-your-wife-and-kill-you mentality that Tupac once aimed at biggie".
    2. The purpose of this article is to highlight the violence in Jamaican music. "the most culturally visible artist in dance hall and reggae music have developed a reputation for hosting infamous on stage clashes between feuding deejays."
    3. Introducing the problem
    naming example after example
    Dance hall economy
    ending argument more violent
    4. exigence and purpose work together but not organization with the author jumping from different years. If the article was presented in a more chronological pattern then the point would be more clear. It confuses the reader it doesn't really convince the reader of the argument because its not clear.
