3/14 Purpose

All writing that is worth anything needs to have a purpose--something that it demonstrates, proves, explicates, informs, etc. When dealing with audiences who are not captive (i.e. do not need to read what you have written), it is not enough to have a purpose; you must demonstrate to them early on what insight, knowledge, perspective, etc. they will gain from reading your work. If not, why would they bother to read it? What was your purpose for writing Blog Post 4 "Genre History," how did you state this purpose to your readers, and why should the audience you are cultivating care? What will be your purpose in Blog Post 5 "Cultural Criticism," how will you state this purpose to your readers, and why should the audience you are cultivating care.

  1. In Blog Post 4, I wanted to make the audience feel like they were in my head. I wanted them to see Hip Hop the way I do, and make their own assumptions from that. In Blog Post 5, I want the audience to decide for themselves if Hip Hop is turning into somewhat of a joke of just flaunting money or does it still provide the same platform that it did 15-20 years ago.

  2. The purpose of my "Genre History" post was to avoid turning the conversation into a Wikipedia article, but rather, take a piece of music that exemplified the genre and explain how it did so, in my opinion, to the audience. If you're a fan at all of the genre, whether you disagree or not on my opinions on the album/genre, it's an important conversation to have when talking about music. For Blog Post 5, I'm still unsure of how I want to approach the subject, but I do know that I want to use an album to drive home my purpose.

  3. The purpose of blog post 4 was to compare 21 Savage to the rest of the genre in order to better explain his style and to show how it fits in the genre and how the genre is evolving.

the purpose of blog post 5 will be to explain the culture that created Atlanta a rap music mecca through an album review.

  4. My purpose in blog post 4 was to educate the audience on a genre's history, it could also be seen as a cool trip down memory lane hearing someone talk about artists they used to like a long time ago. For blog post 5 my purpose will be to show the culture around a genre and how it may impact people who are not big fans of the genre.

  5. In Blog Post 4, my purpose for writing was to determine Taylor Swift's approach to writing music using the history of the two genres she includes, country and pop. The whole blog post was mostly about picking out parts of the album that were confusing and comparing them to areas of the album that were very straightforward in order to find the purpose of each of her songs. In Blog Post 5, I want to make our culture be the purpose for writing the blog post, including things about Taylor Swift's audience now that makes her music fit their lifestyle. The audience should care because they will be the center of my blog post.

  6. I feel like these are really important parts that I left out of blog post 4. The absence of clearly stating what my purpose was and why the audience should car is what is holding back on the the quality of the entire post. These are things that I never really consider before I start writing because the due date is what is usually motivating me the most. For blog post 5 I could work on these by actually giving myself some time to genuinely consider these points and how to display them to the audience in a way that won't be mundane.

  7. My purpose for blog post 4 was very basic in its fundamentals. Essentially, I want my blog to be a helpful guidebook to begin seeing classic rock artist as good candidates for stoner hits, with a genre history, I wanted to do the same thing but, in a way, summarize the beginnings of classic rock/metal and put the rock gods on a pedestal in regards to the way their music ebbs and flows through the tunes we traditionally know and love into trippy songs. specifically, I focused on mexican-american group, Santana, and how their songs were a hit at woodstock for the reasons mentioned and how that catapulted their careers for the next 30 years.

In blog post 5 I will focus on how society perceived ziggy stardust version of david bowie. His nonconformist ways were a new idea to the rising generation and while they were mostly taken by society, it was still a new facet of a person that wasn't quite non-taboo yet. Through this, of course, I will continuously focus on the music, how it was a success, how it pertains to my brand of high hits, and the legacy it left bowie afterwards.

  8. During Blog post 4 my purpose was to give a brief genre history while showing the importance of an album in the history of the music. To show the purpose I started with the genre history and then moved into the album review. The title of the piece should have given away my purpose of blog 4. To state the purpose of blog post 5 i think i will start with facts of topic related to the genre and brand, then move into why and how the music relates and revolves around the culture. i may even source blog post 4 to show the change in culture and how that can change the music. My audience should be cultivating care because if they are willing to put in the effort to try and read my mess they truly care about the music and where and how it came aorund.

  9. In all of my blog posts, I am trying to show the audience that certain genres I have overlooked are valuable and important in their own way. For blog post 4, I don't think I really stated that so I probably should. I would probably be something like Black Sabbath is a legendary band because they were one of the first heavy metal bands, and their music should be valued and appreciated. Hopefully the audience I am writing to will care because I am writing to people like me who don't appreciate all kinds of music, and I would care to read about something that explains the background of a band and why their history led them to being great. For blog post 5, I'll try to do the same thing except tie it into the culture a band or artist changed rather than how a band fits into a certain genre's history. I'm hoping they will care, again, because my audience should be people who don't usually appreciate music but want to.

  10. The purpose of blog post four was to explain where elements of this genre came to those who don't know. This is explained within the post itself by opening on questions asking how this genre was built up. It's also present in the about me and brand in how the blog wants bring new music to those who haven't heard it, this could include new info.

Maybe the purpose of blog post five could be to help people discern whether or not this genre is a joke or not to them

  11. My purpose for writing Blog Post 4 was similar to my exigence; to educate. My goal was to provide the audience with more thought-provoking theories about how rap became a genre, and go back farther and dig deeper in an attempt to legitimize those claims. My purpose for writing Blog Post 5 might be somewhere along the lines of showing how the music has influenced culture, but also how the music has NOT effected culture.

  12. I wrote blog post four in an attempt to shed some light as how video game music has grown by narrowing it down to a specific series of games that is fairly common. This allowed the masses to relate to what I was writing and gave them a frame of reference. I stated this message by simply going over some of the important milestones in the series musical advancements. My purpose in blog post five will be to highlight the growth of the electronic music genre in relation to the evolution of video game scores. Electronic music can find is roots in simple beeps of an earlier era. 8-bit music is the bases for all kinds of fun and funky sounds. Blog post five will be, in sum, more of a continuation of the evolution of music and how music can be changed over time for different audiences.

  13. My purpose of blog post four was because Motown is my favorite genre of music. Not only did I have problems and a story I wanted to tell, I wanted to get awareness out to my audience that Motown is da bomb.com. For blog post five, and really for all other blog posts, I dont have always get to review music I actually enjoy, so my purpose must be something different than "I wanna show people". I'd say for blog post 5 my purpose of writing would be to instill the thought that people dont have to listen to what other people or the culture has to say about a certain song, album, or artist. Let you perceive it for yourself. We are all intelligent people who can think on our own and often times we forget that and let media or others change the meaning of something. I don't know what I'll exactly be doing it on but I'll need to show evidence of an example in music history when.. well darn it was gonna be a good point, i swear

  14. In blog post 4 the reader should be able to understand how two different artist can make up two opposite sound to create R&B. For instance Michael Jackson is a pop artist but his music is still associated with R&B. My audience need to understand that R&B can make up any sound from blues, country, hip hop, reggae, pop, and jazz. For blog post 5 I want to portray how different cultures blend with R&B music.

  15. My blog 4 and 5 are somewhat complimentary, they both speak on the music industry and the consequences of mass accessibility. Using folk music as a platform, I spoke on the misuse of the term “Singer-Songwriter” To mean “Someone who learned guitar to make money in an indie coffee shop”, and the treatment of quality music as a commodity rather than an expectation or nuisance, or else the entire system fails from the base up. Blog 5 will focus on the “Sell outs” and people at the top who are doing no more than acting sad so people will throw money at them. I will convey this through Ed Sheeran’s “Divide” album, and elaborate through the careers of 21 Pilots and other artists as needed.

  16. The purpose for my blog post four was to explicate the influence that Prince had/and still has on the creation of pop music and his genre of Minneapolis funk. This purpose was stated explicitly by literally stating that he was the "blueprint" for previous and current modern music within the first sentence of the blog post. I think that it is important for the audience to care, or at least realize the importance of this, because it proves and explains how Prince's rise to fame and why his oddities with lyricism and instrumentals actually pushed him ahead in the industry and lead him to become the model for what makes an iconic artist. For blog post five, I will do something similar by making he purpose the first sentence and drawing them in to see how a culture can force a musician, or vice-versa, to change their sound and look in order to succeed. An audience should care about this because hopefully it'll tell them how it is that their preferences impact the artists that they support, and those that they've never even heard of. Essentially, it should give them a better understanding of the music industry as a whole.

  17. I feel like I have a couple purposes. I'm trying to get my message across effectively, while being funny at the same time. A lot of people hear this new mumble rap and instantly think it's trash. I'm trying to get the point across that even though it might be trash, it's still fun to listen because of the humor and it is actually pretty hype if you loosen up bit. People who read my work could either totally agree with me and think it's hilarious, or it could be someone who doesn't understand my perspective that is reading it to figure out more about this sub-genre. For those who don't understand, through the use of my over the top brand, I am trying to get them use to the ignorance so maybe they'll realize why I think this music is fun/funny.
In blog post 5 I'm going to show why these choose to act how they do. It use to be all about respective the "greats" like tupac and biggie. but now it's more like forget that, those dudes are dead and lame. I'll try to show why things have changed.

  18. My purpose for Blog Post 4 was to expand people's knowledge of Billy Joel's legacy and music through history. By doing so, I also expanded my own knowledge about the subject, which excited me even more to write about and explain to others. For Blog Post 5, my purpose will be to demonstrate how New York culture effected Billy Joel's music, as well as how it effected Billy Joel himself.

  19. My purpose for writing blog post four was to provide fellow genre lovers with some background information on the history of Kanye. I found it really purposeful since it isn't a well versed topic. The blog post has a pretty unique perspective since its relatively current. There isn't a whole lot of stuff out there on it and I think my audience notices that they will certainly gain something new from reading my blog post. I have yet to determine what my purpose for blog post 5 is but I wi

  20. for blog post 4, I was hoping to show a new journey through rock that at least a few readers hadnt thought about. I wanted to illuminate a specific path rock had taken and hopefully increased, at some level, someone's level of appreciation if not enjoyment of the genre or the artists I talked about. I think the best way to do this would be to change my post and make it a more fluid journey that the readers can invest in.
for blog post 5, I think the best way to go about getting my purpose across would be to directly state it. Something like, "the current events during the time a musical is written is directly related to the musical itself"

  21. I believe my initial purpose for blog post 4 was to concise history of the techno genre, while also researching more about the following and instruments used. I know I most veered from that as I actually wrote it, so I will probably go back and give the post a more clear purpose besides just being there. I am not entirely sure what my culture blog post will actually be about so the purpose is also still in the air. The blanket purpose is most likely to inform.
