All writing is organized--either consciously or haphazardly. An organization should have a specific rhetorical effect on the audience, one that helps them to understand the author's purpose while also acknowledging a variety of different viewpoints. How did you organize Blog Post Four "Genre History." How will you organize Blog Post Five "Cultural Criticism"?
I organized Blog Post 4 in a very interesting way. By your comments, I could tell you were confused but I was just hoping that they way I organized it would attract the audience with short paragraph and many different interesting ideas. I thought I organized it in a thoughtful way but I guess not. Blog Post 5 I want to organize also in an interesting way but make it so that the audience can follow along without getting confused.
ReplyDeleteFor the "Genre History," it took awhile to figure out how I wanted to organize it, but in the end, I decided to first describe the general interpretation of the genre, and then back up those claims by reviewing an album that fit the genre to a T. I'm not entirely sure how I want to go about organizing Blog Post 5, but I'm considering once again giving some feedback on an album to be able to relate it back to culture today.
ReplyDeleteIn all of my blogs I do the whole introduction, body, conclusion thing because that is how my brain works, but I do think it's useful. For example, in blog post 4 I started with talking about the history of heavy metal, then I talked about how Black Sabbath contributed to this, and then I just sort of tied it all together. I know I will unconsciously do this for blog post 5 as well so it will probably be the same sort of explanation of the culture, how the band/artist I pick fits there, and why it's important.
ReplyDeleteFor blog post 4 i started with the history, then moved to the album review then flowed back into the importance of the album and the genre together. For blog post 5 I plan on starting with facts about the culture that goes along with genre, then move into the album, then move to the cultures effect on the album itself.
ReplyDeleteAs you mentioned in my critique of my posts- I didn't organize blog post 4. that was actually my intent as i thought it would be an interesting layout of my blog as, obviously, it is pretty casually set up and has a relatively haphazard tone to it. of course after rereading it now it did not work so well as some points were lost in the context and my purpose wasn't quite able to come across as smoothly. for blog post 5 i intend to keep the same aspect of a casual and cool toned article, however, make it easier to read and understand. luckily, there is a relatively simple way to set up and outline the post as it involves culture surrounding the music so i will be able to use david bowies past, his rise as ziggy stardust, discuss how society took to his look, discuss music, how it is a neato stoner hit, and then how society took to his music.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I didnt really organize blog post 4 very well. It went haphazardly. I just started typing because of writers block and eventually I had jumbled info (at least it felt jumbled to me). For blog Post 5 I would like to create an outline on the info I'd like to showcase so there is more flow and there isn't too much choppiness. Also, I want to have more foreshadowing in my into paragraph so everything is covered and you know what will be discussed and nothing will take anyone off guard.
ReplyDeleteI organized blog post 4 haphazardly, I mean I did do a little research on it, but not as much as I should have to give me a better understanding on "genre history". So my goal for blog post 5 will be to go more in depth about the cultural side of R&B music and figure out what my audience can actually obtain from blog post 5.
ReplyDeleteMy blog post four, to me, felt sort of unorganized. I had first discussed Prince's history in the music industry and what his influences were, moved on to a track-by-track analysis of an album where i referenced his unique styles in the tracks, and then finished by discussing how these musical decisions influenced other artists. Again, I have no clue what I am doing for blog post 5 yet. However, i think that discussing who/what something was originally and comparing it to an album where the artist is considered "changed" would provide interesting insight. Then, I could finish off with how this changed impacted them/others.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to build up to 21 savage and how the genre produced an artist like him. so i started with history and built into 21 savage then did the album review.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea how I'm going to organize blog post 5. I'll probably just right it out and then move stuff around if i feel like it fits better elsewhere. That's how i did other reviews and it worked out great
I organized blog post four into eras. The eras were broken down into specific albums. I thought it was pretty cool how I did it but there are a ton of albums and it would've thrown me way over the top of the word count. When I revise, I plan to group the albums together and make my eras 'chunkier'. For blog post five, I may continue on the same theme of eras since culture is also fluid throughout the years and Kanye's cultural impact and culture's impact on him is constantly changing and evolving.
ReplyDeleteBlog Post 4: I gave a small intro on how/why the indie genre was created and what we think of it today. Then I went to the albums of Toro y Moi and how his sound has evolved. This post is a work in progress so it still need to be cleaned up.
ReplyDeleteBlog Post 5: I haven't given it much thought and I really have no clue which stand point I will be writing from. But we can hope it is organized :)
Blog post 4 for me was organized by not giving too many opinions and mostly facts and that kept the audience from getting to confused. I plan on organizing blog post 5 by keeping my opinion on the culture consistent throughout the blog post so the audience doesnt get confused.
ReplyDeleteMy goal for the organization of blog post 4 was to have an overview of the history then have examples of pertinent songs. I used a couple songs from some of the more interesting sub-genres and reviewed those with a background of when they emerged. For blog post 5 I want to start with another perspective then go into my own before comparing. At this time I am not too sure what my cultural post will be about entirely. I do want to take more time to research than I have in my other posts.
ReplyDeleteI organized my blog post 4 by the only logical way I thought I could organize a genre history, chronologically. I admittedly didn't do a very good job doing that, but it does flow in the way that I wanted it to.
ReplyDeleteBlog post five doesn't have the obvious organization pattern the blog post four does, but I was thinking about organizing it in a way that can sow multiple factors culminating in the production of a specific work of art.
I organized blog post four in a way that allowed people to look at the series of Legend of Zelda chronologically. Even with some specific song references for them to be able to go back and listen to, emphasizing the evolution of that series. Blog post five will be organized similarly in the sense of chronology but with cross platform references. Not only will I be looking at specific composers of video games, but I will be looking at the popularization of electronic music. Drawing references to each both genres and showing how the two of them relate and co-mingle.
ReplyDeleteI organized blog post four to start off with a brief history of the start of rap music and what all happened to get to where we are today. I hit on all the major rappers. (like tupac and biggie) then when I got to where i actually thought rap got interesting and cool I actually turned up my brand because it actually fit. Then when I got to all the ignorant rappers I looked back at where I started the blog post and showed why these rappers are here know and why it's acceptable for someone like Kodak to say he doesn't respect tupac or biggie. I have no clue how i'll organize blog post five. Probably start of with the influences that these rappers had when growing up and how it's so relevant now to us because instead of listening to some whack old rapper that isn't relevant we now want to listen to young rappers who are relevant.
ReplyDeleteMy organization for Blog Post 4 was primarily done chronologically. I went through history starting in the "B.C." era and continuing into modern times. I believe that doing a history like this is easiest to follow and gives your reader a natural flow of thought. It also places more focus on the links between times. blog Post 5 is to far in the future to care about right now.
ReplyDeleteI consciously organized Blog Post 4 to progress from rock, to rock history, to history. I always organize my thoughts before I write, because I want to find the most clear way to format my writing in order to clearly provide my message for the reader. I will organize Blog Post 5 by starting with a background on Billy Joel's life growing up in New York, and go on to talk about how that influenced his music. Toward the end of the post, I will go in-depth about the songs and lyrics.
ReplyDeleteFor Blog Post 4, I made a playlist that had 1 song each year from 2000-2017 and that song defined Rap that year. I also covered the transition from 707's to 808's, and how that's impacted the genre. For blog post 5, I will start by referencing my interview and then explaining the criticism of Hip Hop being shallow with real lyrical talent nowadays. Most artists have a producer that creates everything except the lyrics for them, but a lot of artists still don't create meaningful lyrics.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t organize blog 4 very well, I intended to throw all of my ideas on paper then clean, but I forgot the second half… Blog 5 will begin with a paragraph on how Ed Sheeran became the superstar he is today, and that will allude to a review of “Divide”. I will reflect on his previous albums to examine if this commentary has been uniform throughout his career, I will end on a reflection on the society he is currently succeeding in
ReplyDeleteBlog post four was organized chronologically bouncing from artist to track examples to follow some kind of historical theme. This could be seen as a pacing method to keep the reader from getting bored, but it wasn't an active thought in writing. Plus, being chronological might help the info stick in mind.
ReplyDeleteBlog post five will probably be organized with examples then explanations in that order.
